Full job description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Development & Innovation

· Lead development of new products and product improvements including:

-preserved fruits

-nuts and flavored nuts

-snack repacking products

· Review product development requests with initiators and production team to assess feasibility.

· Plan and design product development experiments and trial requirements.

· Evaluate recipe formulation considering:

-product quality

-ingredient availability

-cost feasibility

-Halal compliance

-Food regulatory compliances

· Conduct and review sensory evaluation results and guide formulation improvements.

2. Manufacturing & Process Feasibility

· Apply basic manufacturing knowledge to ensure new product formulations are suitable for production processes.

· Work closely with Production / Packing Department during product trials and first production runs.

· Identify potential manufacturing challenges and recommend adjustments to formulations or processes.

· Ensure product recipes can be consistently produced at factory scale.

3. Market & Business Awareness

· Develop products that align with market trends, consumer preferences, and company product strategy.

· Evaluate product development from a commercial perspective, considering cost, pricing competitiveness, and customer demand.

· Support management in identifying opportunities for new product categories, flavor innovations, or product improvements.

4. Purchasing & Supplier Collaboration

· Work closely with the Purchasing Department in sourcing new ingredients and raw materials.

· Evaluate supplier ingredients and formulations to ensure suitability for company products.

· Support Purchasing in identifying alternative ingredients or suppliers when needed.

· Assist in adjusting product formulations when supplier ingredient specifications change.

5. Product Commercialization

· Manage and monitor New Product Development (NPD) projects from concept to product launch.

· Ensure all product development activities follow company procedures and project timelines.

· Coordinate first production trials with Production / Packing Department.

· Approve final product recipes before release to production.

6. Documentation & Regulatory Compliance

· Ensure proper preparation and control of product documentation including:

-product formulations

-recipe cards

-development reports

-product specifications

· Ensure compliance with:

-Malaysia and / or other export country food regulations

-Halal requirements

-company food safety standards

7. Packaging & Label Compliance

· Review packaging artwork to ensure compliance with food labelling regulations including:

-ingredient declaration

-nutrition information

-product claims

· Provide guidance to R&D Officer on regulatory requirements for packaging labels.

8. Meetings & Reporting

· Lead monthly New Product Development (NPD) meetings.

· Attend and present project updates in Monthly HOD meetings.

· Prepare reports including:

-project progress updates

-product development status

-KPI reports

9. Team Leadership & Supervision

· Supervise and guide R&D team in daily R&D activities.

· Assign project tasks and monitor progress.

· Conduct weekly discussions to identify priorities and resolve development challenges.

· Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching for team members.

10. R&D Process & System Improvement

· Review and update R&D procedures and documentation.

· Introduce improvements to R&D tracking systems, documentation processes, and development workflows.

Job Requirements:

1. Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science & Technology / Food Engineering / Nutrition Science or related field.

2. Experience

· Minimum 5 years’ experience in food manufacturing or product development.

· Experience in snack, dried fruit, nut products, or beverage premix industry is preferred.

· Experience handling product development projects and factory production trials.
