MUFG is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Compliance (Sanctions and Anti-Bribery Corruption) to join their team in Kuala Lumpur. This role offers you the opportunity to contribute substantively to the development of rigorous compliance frameworks, ensuring steadfast adherence to regulatory standards and the promotion of ethical business conduct across international operations.
What you'll do:
As an Assistant Vice President, Compliance (Sanctions and Anti-Bribery Corruption) , you will safeguard MUFG’s reputation by formulating comprehensive frameworks that address high-risk business activities.

Develop and refine sanctions control frameworks tailored for high-risk business activities
-
Interpret regulatory developments and apply them judiciously to internal sanctions policies and procedures

Evaluate escalated cases involving potential sanctions breaches or exposure, provide comprehensive analysis and well-considered recommendations for resolution
-
Review and authorise restricted party screening results as well as overseeing updates to internal lists
-
Propose enhancements to sanctions training programmes and awareness campaigns
-
Advise on sanctions risk during new product development and client onboarding processes, assist teams in navigating intricate regulatory landscapes
-
Collaborate effectively on sanctions-related escalations with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and appropriate responses

Conduct due diligence investigations and research into clients, transactions, or business partners to identify potential risks

Draft guidance documents and assist with interpretation of policies
-
Review and provide advice on Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) related matters including gifts, entertainment, sponsorships, donations, and conflicts of interest

Assess and escalate bribery and corruption risks arising from customer relationships, third-party engagements, and business activities as needed

Support the maintenance, implementation, and enhancement of the Bank's ABC framework, policies, and procedures through regular reviews
-
Review ABC-related approvals and provide guidance to stakeholders on compliance with applicable internal and regulatory requirements

Conduct ABC-related investigations, thematic reviews, and risk assessments where required to ensure ongoing vigilance

Develop and deliver ABC awareness programmes and training initiatives across the Bank to foster a culture of compliance
What you bring:
As an Assistant Vice President, Compliance (Sanctions and Anti-Bribery Corruption) , you will focus on sanctions advisory, anti-bribery corruption and financial crime compliance.

A degree in Law, Business, Banking, Compliance or equivalent work experience is equally valued for this role

Candidates with banking compliance certifications from the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), such as AML/CFT Foundation Level or Intermediate Level qualifications, are encouraged to apply. Applicants with relevant experience and knowledge of Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) regulations, including Section 17A of the MACC Act, the UK Bribery Act, and the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), are also encouraged to apply

Professional certifications such as Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Integrity and Governance Officer (CeIGO), or equivalent credentials are preferred

Practical experience in sanctions advisory or financial crime compliance roles demonstrates your ability to manage nuanced assessments involving reputational or legal risks associated with high-risk transactions

A comprehensive understanding of global sanctions laws including OFAC regulations, EU directives, United Kingdom regulations as well as regional frameworks such as Monetary Authority of Singapore is essential

Experience in regulatory reporting processes coupled with proficiency in internal investigations

Proficiency in compliance analytics platforms and list management tools

Exceptional written communication skills allow you to draft clear guidance documents supported by strong research capabilities during due diligence exercises

Strong communication skills combined with collaborative abilities empower you to work effectively across departments

Analytical thinking paired with problem-solving abilities is essential for identifying effective solutions when faced with complex compliance challenges
