you worked hard from early morning to late evenings but you were rewarded and promoted for your efforts. Unbelievable amount of responsibility thrust upon you. Created a sense of ownership.

Got hectic and unprogressive after a while. Good place to work with good facilities actually. Gets boring after a while it doesn't seem like a growth oriented place

Insurance companies depend on underwriters to review insurance applications and determine whether they qualify for acceptance. Employers are looking to hire candidates with strong analytical and organizational skills and experience with computer software. In an interview context, expect to answer technical questions such as evaluating risk as well as behavioral questions that will assess your ability to work on a team and resolve difficult problems. To test your quantitative skills, an interviewer may through in a brain teaser."
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Workload

Aig sucks as a company. I raises for regular employees for a decade. Only executives get salary increases while the company is laying off employees and hiring all contractors

The workplace culture is pretty conservative but friendly. It's fairly bureaucratic so no expects things to be done right away. The most enjoyable part of the job is the work/life balance. But the trade off is low pay and not much opportunity for growth. There is also a constant threat of layoff because management is being pressured to cut costs.
Pros
work/life balance
Cons
no career growth

I've worked for AIG for over 20 years. Layoff have been a thing with them in different locations for a long time. Usually considering functions in one area, but lately the layoffs were more frequent and due to the company's financial well being. They don't really care about how they screw with your life when they let you go. I had just bought a house, later the same year get a raise. And 2 years after that, a loyal employee for 2 decades, and I'm laid off. Other people were kept, the rest were gone. No rhyme or reason to it.
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
No communication, job security and job advancement is for those who play politics, bureaucracy often gets in the way of doing your job, while people are being laid off the upper officers are getting promotions and raises

AIG as a company overall has some good benefits and different departments offer a good work environment for employees. The sales field and roles within that area however lack in organization and clear direction. The compensation package is below industry standards and not competitive. The technology is crucially lagging behind industry benchmarks thus making it difficult to do business. It is virtually impossible to be promoted and upward mobility is limited.
Pros
Good benefit package
Cons
Poor management, poor technology platform

There were plenty of roles I had and others that were available to apply for. Management was supportive of moving to different roles to learn various parts of the business.
Pros
Strong management
Cons
Not a lot of loyalty from the top in later years

When I first started at AIG I loved my job. I love WC. I did Auto previously and Comp is a breath of fresh air. I loved the culture and the feeling that people really cared. There was still the corporate nonsense but if you did your job you were left alone or even promoted. Now they look for reasons to get rid of people. Does the one manager that has lunch with the AVP not like that adjuster, oh they are next to go. Does one adjuster make more money than the other? Their are never any raises anymore. What do we work towards? It is not a nice place to work anymore. We do not get any sort of encouragement for our hard work. No good job, way to go. Even the managers hate their jobs. Every last one of them. They complain constantly. How they are up all night doing their manager notes etc. It never stops.
Pros
It’s a job
Cons
Micro managed, see what time you logon to computer. If you forget they are on top of you.

Team effort in coordinating events. My boss at the time was encouraging, allowed us to use our strengths and be active in the company culture of committees, etc. Writing for and about co-workers was good and there was opportunity for community involvement as well.
Pros
Diversity in people and responsibilities. Freedom to use strengths and to grow in other areas.
Cons
Always wondering about next round of layoffs

Management is only about themselves and what they can get. They do not care about the workers at all! HR services are a joke and have no concern with assisting with an issue or complaint. No sense of urgency and they do not guard your personal information not care if it is seen by other employees.
Pros
There are some helpful coworkers if you can get work with the long term employees.
Cons
Horrible management, horrible HR practices, no work life balance, broken promises from management, no formal training available

Any processing departments or call center departments are horrible. Almost every employee is looking for or wanting a new job. Cannot take off when you need and in some cases must plan time off one year in advance. Very unforgiving on mistakes. High turnover rate.
Pros
Currently Working from home
Cons
Track your every move and time during day.

AIG is great. The benefits are great. The work life balance is also great. AIG really cares about their employees. If you work in Travel Guard as a sales agent, you don't get the same flexibility as some of the other parts of AIG because it's a call center. Not much of a work life balance in Travel Guard as a sales agent. It's a good position if you dont mind talking on the phone all day and love to sell. Not much room for advancement in the Houston office of travel guard but great to get insurance and sales experience.
Pros

Cons
No room for professional growth

With a contract position, you can't really expect to get any benefits from them. You work as hard as the full time employee, but you got paid less. that's pretty much it.
